ORLANDO ANNUAL MULTIDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE
March 21-24, 2011

Online submissions accepted until February 4, 2011.

IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ...

The conference will be held at the University of Central Florida's (UCF) Rosen College, right on Universal Boulevard in the heart of Orlando's tourist parks and attractions. Do not confuse Rosen College with UCF's main campus which is about 40 minutes away, in the middle of nowhere. In line with Orlando's weather calendar, we have also moved this annual conference from late February to late March, to benefit from abundant sunshine and warm weather (over the 80°F mark).

"Research and Creativity" is the theme of this refereed international conference. Academics, including professors and graduate students, are invited to submit their latest research.

As a delegate, you will have the opportunity to participate in complimentary bus programs which take you diagonally acorss the state in a journey of discovery. As always, IJAS offers a comprehensive program, suitable for study abroad programs and for the educational benefit of the delegates. It is within the realm and control of each delegate what to select and what to attend. Some faculty prefer to attend every single event at the conference; others blend in the conference with what its geographical surroundings have to offer.

If you opt for both cultural programs, you will be assigned a conference presentation slot on a different day to assure a conflict-free schedule.

For the Orlando conference, we invite abstracts, papers, and proposals in any of the following tracks:
  • Social Sciences and Humanities,
  • Business and Economics,
  • Teaching and Education, and
  • Technology and Science.

The best paper in each of these four tracks will be recognized through an engraved plaque. The reviewers will select the winning papers.

The accepted submissions will be clustered around their common topics and areas of interest. As is typical of multidisciplinary conferences, the final program - released about three weeks before the conference - will mirror the research agendas of the delegates rather than a pre-conceived list of arbitrary topics.

It is up to each delegate how much to submit or publish. Some authors may publish only an abstract in the proceedings. Others may prefer to publish a full-length manuscript in the journal.

Delegates may also attend a conference without submitting or publishing any research.

Authors may deliver their work during the conference either as (i) a regular presentation, (ii) a poster session, (iii) a panel, or (iv) a workshop.

Room setups at the conference shall be amenable to different types of presentations.

The IJAS Conference Series takes place annually in several cities across Europe and North America. The series has three primary aims.

The first aim is to provide opportunities for academics from a range of disciplines and countries to share their research both through the conference podium and IJAS' double-blind refereed publications. All IJAS conferences are inter- and multi-disciplinary.

The second aim of the Conference Series is to provide opportunities for academics to receive informal in-depth feedback through discussions, and to enable them to establish contact with professionals in other countries and institutions. The tours are the main way of "breaking the ice" away from the formalities of the conference hall, providing an informal setting for discussing different points of view. Even in an increasingly networked world of internet and satellite conferences, there is no substitute for personal interaction—what Edward R. Murrow calls "the last three feet of communication."  It is individuals, not data streams, who must ultimately build the connections that in turn create lasting international research partnerships.

The third aim of the Conference Series is to introduce academics to educational premises in locations that are suitable for study abroad programs and which may meet their students’ educational needs. IJAS draws its inspiration from the Fulbright Program, an integral part of the United States' foreign educational relations, where face-to-face exchanges have proven to be the single most effective means of engaging international publics while broadening dialogue between academics and institutions.

Conference Location

The conference will be hosted once again by the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, the University of Central Florida's (UCF) latest addition, on Universal Boulevard. IJAS opted for Rosen College for several important reasons:

1.  It's full of splendor and modern amenities;
2.  It's in the heart of Orlando's tourist attractions, tucked between
Universal Studios and Sea World;
3.  Several discount hotels are within its reach;
4.  Its conference facilities are unparalleled in Florida; and
5.  It's a continuation of IJAS' professional relationship with UCF.

Visit a Florida Park - $60 rebate

Wednesday, March 23, 2010.

For the 2011 conference, IJAS will be re-introducing the park rebate program that entitles delegates to a $60 maximum rebate. The rebate is valid for a visit to one of the following parks on March 23, 2011:

    • NASA's Kennedy Space Center
    • Any of Disney World's Theme Parks
    • Any of Universal's Theme Parks
    • Sea World
    • Busch or Cypress Gardens

The last time IJAS offered this program, NASA's Kennedy Space Center was our science professors' first choice. However, the program for 2011 has a broader list of parks. IJAS publicly recognizes the Florida Commission on Tourism for its promotion of cultural and academic tourism.

The rebate form, valid for one park visit on March 23, 2011, will be included in the registration package. The form requires proof of park ticket purchase and should be submitted either at the IJAS desk during the conference or by mail after the conference. The rebate amount will be $60. It will be less - up to the price of the park ticket - if the ticket costs less than $60. This promotion is only open to those who register for the full 4-day conference including their registered guests. Delegates may buy their park tickets from any location of their own choice.

Submit Your Research

To submit your abstract for presentation at this conference, click here.

The most important dates to remember are as follows:

  • Submit your abstract through the online submission form on or before February 4, 2011.
  • Pay the registration fee for the conference on or before February 14, 2011.
  • The conference will be held during March 21-24, 2011.
  • Email your formatted manuscript after your online submission is accepted and before April 7, 2011.
  • The proceedings and journal will be published in October 2011.

Within a few days of receiving your online abstract submission, we will notify you of the reviewers' acceptance or rejection, for the conference.

If we inform you that it is an acceptance and you would like to publish your research, follow the model format
here and email us your formatted document in Microsoft Word. You may do so up to two weeks after the conference.

Abstracts and summarized articles will be published in the proceedings entitled Conference of the International Journal of Arts and Sciences, in CD-ROM format (ISSN 1943-6114).

Full length manuscripts may be published in the International Journal of Arts and Sciences, also in CD-ROM format (ISSN 1944-6934). The review process for the journal is slower and more demanding in its standards. Although both the proceedings and the journal are refereed, research that meets the refereed standards for the conference may not meet the refereed standards for the journal.

The journal is no longer distributed in hard copy format. It is now in CD-ROM format since this makes it easier to disseminate articles (
click for examples). Each registered author will receive a complimentary copy of the CD-ROM in which his/her work appears. The CD-ROMs will be airmailed in October 2011.

Registered authors who prefer a hard copy of the proceedings or journal may download the entire CD-ROM on their own computer and publish and order a hard copy of it from
Lulu.com for their own personal use.

Our articles are increasingly accessed - click here - through Google Scholar. The journal is indexed in Ulrich's serials directory and Cabell's directories of Educational Curriculum & Methods and Educational Psychology and Administration.

There is no page limit on articles. We welcome both short and lengthy submissions. We don't impose a financial penalty on lengthy manuscripts.

Each registered author, irrespective of whether he or she submits a formatted abstract or paper, will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Powerpoint Presentations
At the conference, each presentation room will be equipped with a laptop, a digital projector and a projector screen. The laptop will be set up for Powerpoint presentations. Linux and Mac users are asked to save their presentations in a compatible format. In the evolving world of Microsoft, save down to the 97-2003 format in order to ward off any problems. You may bring with you about 15 hard copies for the attendees.

Questions about your submission and presentation should be emailed to:
conference@internationaljournal.org.

Orlando is a buyer's market for hotel rooms where during the time of our conference the rates would run from about $30 and upwards per night.

One may wait until the last minute and secure a heavily discounted room by tapping into the promotional offers from a wide array of hotels at
RoomSaver.com.

For some excellent deals at villas and 5-star hotels, we recommend the
Travelzoo website.

For a well-mapped array of hotels at all star levels in the vicinity of our conference venue, Universal Studios, and Sea World, we strongly recommend the Yahoo Travel
website. On the website, enter the conference location's address: 9907 Universal Boulevard, Orlando, FL 32819. You could then do a search sorted by price or distance (from the conference hall).

You may want to rent a car in Orlando. A booking through Hotwire will get you a car for about $30 per day. This would allow you to lodge anywhere in Orlando, given the mobility it will get you. Public transport in Orlando isn't impressive although the taxi service is highly efficient. This is the only American city we would unhesitatingly recommend for driving for anyone who is not familiar with American roads. The roads of Orlando and its surroundings are top notch. Wide, safe and properly asphalted. You could take a one-hour ride to Cape Canaveral and even the road that leads you there is a joy in itself.

What to Do in Orlando

Budget Travel magazine carried an article last year entitled "25 Reasons We Love Orlando." Click
here to read the article. It offers detailed information and website links to most of the recommended activities, ranging from eating fried alligator nuggets in Gatorland to making a trip to the Orange County Regional History Center, home of Jack Kerouc's annotated manuscript of The Dharma Bums which he wrote in a house in Orlando.

Orlando's Convention & Visitors Bureau is not so hesitant about what to suggest and lists "210 Things to Do in Orlando." Click
